115 Poplars Set to Line Trams on Warsaw’s Marszałkowska

Warsaw’s New City Centre has begun planting 115 poplars along the tramway on Marszałkowska, with the first eight trees planted overnight, December 9‑10.

Poplars Along the Tramway

Wednesdays, the first eight poplars were planted between 9 pm and 10 pm on December 9 and 10. In the coming days, the entire stretch will host a total of 115 trees.

Night‑time Planting Coordination

Planting at night avoids tram traffic, a collaboration between the City Roads Board and Warsaw Tramways. Trees will also be arranged with a splash of light blue and neutral‑colored shrubs.

Expanding Green Corridors

Additional 44 silver elms will be planted near Królewska and Świętokrzyska, complementing existing groves. The poplars, known as Populus ‘Fiorente’, can reach 6‑10 m in width and 25 m in height, shading both road and tracks.

Zgoda and Sienkiewicza Streets

In the Złota‑Zgoda quarter, 35 poplars have already arrived plus a new grove on Zgoda street, where nine‑metre trees were planted last spring. Additional 14 trees have extended the greening along Sienkiewicza.

New Passage Area Enhancements

Near the newly opened crossing at Marszałkowska and Złota, trees will be added to increase shade and comfort for pedestrians and cyclists connecting to Central Square.

Bankowy Square and Starzyński Monument

West of Bankowy Square, 17 trees have been planted in spring. The area will soon host four plane trees around the Starzyński monument, along with roses, a special Polish “President Stefan Starzyński” variety, and seven more trees of various species.
