Two police officers in Andrychów, Poland, face charges after a 14-year-old girl froze to death last November.
Police Officers Charged
Prosecutors have charged two police officers with dereliction of duty and unintentionally exposing a minor to direct danger of life or serious bodily harm. According to Radio Kraków, investigators are also preparing charges against two more officers. The girl’s father reported her missing in the morning, stating he had no contact with her since their last conversation when she said she was not feeling well. None of the officers admitted to the charges.
14-Year-Old Natalia Froze in Andrychów Center
The case dates back to late November 2023, when 14-year-old Natalia was heading to a bus stop in Andrychów to get to her high school in Kęty. At one point, she felt unwell and stopped 100 meters from her destination near a supermarket in the city center. At 8:15 AM, she called her father and then lost consciousness. According to journalists, after more than five hours (around 1:30 PM), a passerby found her, moved her to a store, and along with store employees attempted to resuscitate her. An ambulance was called, and she was taken to the hospital in a state of hypothermia. She died almost a day later due to acute circulatory-respiratory failure resulting from cooling.
Search for 14-Year-Old Natalia
According to TVN24, the girl’s father was looking for her from the morning. The first contact with his brother was after 9 AM. He called around 9:16 AM asking if he could send a phone number to a police acquaintance to locate Natalia’s phone. He sent the number and called again after 20 minutes, learning it had been passed on that he needed to go to the police station. At 9:36 AM, he said he had to go to the station. According to Anna, police allegedly told the girl’s father to wait an hour for another officer. At 12:36 PM, the father called saying he was leaving the station.
