15-Year-Old Faces Court After Wrong-Way Scooter Incident

A 15-year-old boy in Ciechanów was intercepted by police on Monday for riding an electric scooter against traffic and ignoring a no-entry sign without having the required legal authorization.

Illegal Maneuvers on Ściegiennego Street

On Monday, May 25, officers from the Patrol and Intervention Department in Ciechanów stopped a 15-year-old local resident riding an electric scooter against the flow of traffic. The teenager ignored a B-2 “no entry” sign and lacked the mandatory license to operate the vehicle.

Following the intervention, the youth was handed over to his mother, and he will now face the Family and Juvenile Court for his traffic violations.

Legal Requirements for Scooter Operators

Police remind the public that electric scooter use is governed by strict traffic regulations. Operators on public roads must be at least 13 years old and possess a bicycle license, unless they are riding in a residential zone under adult supervision.

While the mandatory helmet law does not take effect until June 3, 2026, officers strongly encourage their use now. Helmets and protective gear can significantly reduce injuries during falls, especially for inexperienced riders who may lack proper control over their vehicles.

Prohibited Behaviors and Safety Risks

Authorities emphasize that several dangerous practices are explicitly forbidden, including carrying passengers, animals, or cargo, as well as hitching a ride on other vehicles. Additionally, using a handheld phone while riding is strictly prohibited, as any distraction can lead to severe accidents.

Parents and legal guardians are reminded of their responsibility for the road behavior of minors. Ensuring children are properly prepared for participation in traffic is a fundamental duty of adults.
