The accident occurred on Sunday at 1:55 AM on a municipal road in Owśnice, Kościerzyna County. The 17-year-old, driving a Toyota Aygo, was heading towards Korne along road K20.

According to the Kościerzyna County Police Headquarters, the driver “for reasons yet unknown, veered onto the left shoulder and then collided with a roadside tree.”

The 17-year-old died at the scene. Police confirmed the teenager did not possess a valid driver’s license.

Police investigators interviewed witnesses, examined the scene and the vehicle, created a situational sketch, and documented the scene photographically with the assistance of a forensic technician, all under the supervision of a prosecutor.

Increased Road Controls

Authorities are appealing to drivers to exercise caution and adjust their speed to road conditions.

Recent data from the National Police Headquarters indicates 43 accidents occurred on Saturday, resulting in three fatalities and 49 injuries. 325 drivers were apprehended for driving under the influence.

On Friday, 68 accidents resulted in nine deaths and 91 injuries, with 274 drivers found to be intoxicated.

Police Warnings and Safety Recommendations

During the holiday season, police are conducting increased road controls focusing on speed and sobriety. There will be no leniency for reckless drivers.

“Our patrols will be particularly visible on routes leading to and from cities,” stated Police Inspector Robert Opas from the KGP Road Traffic Bureau. He assured that officers would address the most serious violations and crimes.

Before traveling, drivers should thoroughly check their vehicle’s technical condition, including tire pressure, oil levels, fluids, wiper condition, and headlight cleanliness. Planning the route and identifying potential rest stops is also recommended.

Drivers should also check the weather forecast and, “above all, not rush.” While navigation systems are helpful, a traditional map can also be useful.
