18,111 Finishers Set Polish 10 km Record in Warsaw Independence Run

In Warsaw, 18,111 runners finished the 10‑km Independence Day Run, setting a Polish record and sparking a 19,000‑strong gathering of athletes and fans on November 11.

Record Participation and Patriotism

The 35th Independence Run in Warsaw drew over 19,000 participants across three distances, with 18,111 completing the main 10‑km race. The streets of the capital were filled with runners and supporters wearing white and red shirts, forming a living Polish flag and chanting the national anthem before the start.

Women’s 10 km Record By Elżbieta Glinka

Elżbieta Glinka broke the Polish women’s 10‑km record with a time of 32:00, surpassing the previous best by five years. She was joined on the podium by Sabina Jarząbek (33:43) and Klara Strząbała (34:07).

Men’s Race and Latvian Record

Belgian runner Clément Deflandre won the men’s race in 28:26, while Latvia’s Arturs Niklavs Medveds finished second in 28:27, setting a new Latvian record. Frenchman Florian Le Pallec took third place with 29:25, and Polish runner Kuba Gajda finished fifth at 30:19.

Mayor’s Thank‑You Note

City Deputy Mayor Renata Kaznowska praised participants, thanking them for creating a vibrant atmosphere and celebrating independence through sport. She highlighted the collective joy of over 18,000 runners, more than 500 Nordic walking participants, and nearly 500 children who completed the Milę Niepodległości.

The event underscored Warsaw’s tradition of celebrating Independence Day with community participation regardless of age or athletic experience. Organizers plan to continue the Independence Run as a key sporting event for the coming year.
