A 19-year-old border guard was found dead in a Szczecin dormitory on Tuesday morning following an overnight gathering involving alcohol, with an official investigation into involuntary manslaughter now underway.
Fatal Incident at Szczecin Dormitory
The tragedy occurred between Monday and Tuesday, May 18-19, at a student dormitory in Szczecin, West Pomeranian Voivodeship. The individuals involved were off-duty border guards.
Alcohol was consumed during the gathering. Upon discovery of the 19-year-old’s body in his bed, two other individuals were transported to the hospital. Julia Szozda, spokesperson for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Szczecin, confirmed that an investigation has been launched.
Investigation and Findings
The Szczecin-Zachód District Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the matter under Article 155 of the Penal Code, which pertains to the involuntary causing of death. Officials noted that the alcohol consumed was sourced legally.
A prosecutor and police officers have examined the scene. Preliminary findings have excluded the involvement of third parties, and an autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow.
Previous Incidents Involving Border Guards
This follows another recent tragedy involving a Border Guard officer. In March of last year, a 27-year-old female officer died at the Katowice-Pyrzowice Airport despite the arrival of emergency medical services and a rescue helicopter.
Authorities similarly ruled out the involvement of third parties in that case. The officer had served in the Border Guard for three years and was held in high regard by her colleagues.
