On Saturday, August 9 at approximately 1 a.m., a loud explosion was reported at a building on Karpia Street in Poznań, filling the apartment with smoke. Police preliminarily determined that a chemical reaction involving unknown substances was responsible for the incident. The substances were secured and examined by an expert.

Polsat News reports that the explosion occurred in the early hours, likely triggered by an undisclosed reaction. Authorities are still gathering evidence, including forensic analysis of the residue left after the blast.

Casualties and Evacuation

The explosion forced the evacuation of 30 residents, including two men who were present when the blast occurred. One was transported to a hospital with hand burns, while the other was taken to the local police station. All remaining occupants returned to their apartments with permission from the Building Inspection Inspectorate.

Subcommissar Łukasz Paterski of the Poznań Police said, “Fortunately, no one else was harmed.”

Investigation Findings

A team of investigators carried out on-site examinations, analyzing evidence, reviewing surveillance footage, and questioning witnesses. “We are carefully uncovering the circumstances surrounding the event,” Tasserki noted.

Radio Poznań’s unofficial report suggests that the perpetrators were potentially a serious threat. “Explosive materials were stored in the apartment—though the quantity remains unknown,” the radio station reported.
