Polish police officer Jerzy Dziewulski, famed for his relentless work against terrorism, died at the age of 81. His career spanned over three decades of public service, during which he became a symbol of courage and dedication.
Military and Political Service
Dziewulski led numerous anti‑terrorist operations, including critical missions on the World Trade Center site. Within Poland, he was one of the commanders of Operation Most, a covert operation that facilitated the relocation of Jewish refugees from former Soviet states to Israel. For his bravery, he was the only Polish policeman to receive the Medal for Self‑Sacrifice and Courage three times.
Beyond the battlefield, Dziewulski served as an advisor on security matters to President Aleksander Kwaśniewski between 1996 and 1997, and was a deputy in the Sejm during its first four terms (1991‑2005).
Anti‑Terrorism Activity
He directed operations during thirteen terror attacks, including incidents aboard aircraft, safeguarding 765 passengers from imminent harm. All passengers survived the incidents under his leadership.
Operation Most earned him honors from both Poland and Israel for its successful execution and humanitarian impact.
Later Activity
In later years, Dziewulski was twice wounded in the line of duty. He also consulted on the production of the Polish crime drama, “07 Sign a Call,” appearing in four episodes from 1984 to 1987. After retiring from politics in 2005, he pursued a business venture, advising on security issues.
