Belarus’s President Alexander Lukashenko shocked viewers by taking a sip of rapeseed oil during a farm‑visit, while simultaneously speaking about election fraud and hinting at his future in office.
Lukashenko Drinks Oil. “Really Good”
During a visit to the Smolensk region, President Lukashenko monitored the harvest and unexpectedly drank a bottle of rapeseed oil, remarking “It is really good. If you want to be healthy, you must use this oil.” The incident was captured and shared by NEXTA, then posted on X.
Will Lukashenko Step Down?
In a recent interview with TIME, Lukashenko suggested he might not seek another term, saying “I do not plan anything.” He denied that his son Nikita would succeed him, stating “I knew you would ask me about that. No, no, no.” He added that he had been ready to resign in a previous term, but believed society was not yet prepared.
Fraudulent Elections in Belarus
The most recent elections, held on January 26, 2025, officially awarded Lukashenko 87 % of the vote. However, many countries, including Poland, did not recognize the results, citing alleged fraud. After the 2020 election, massive protests erupted against Lukashenko’s claimed victory, with hundreds of thousands participating and over 33,000 arrests reported by Human Rights Watch.
