President of the Vesuvius National Park Comments
“Homes and roads are monitored, but the situation in the Alto Tirone reserve remains critical. Two additional Canadair aircraft will arrive in about an hour. We are confident they can provide decisive support, although the situation remains difficult,” said Raffaele De Luca, president of the Vesuvius National Park, as quoted by ildenario.it.
Mayor Does Not Rule Out Arson
On Friday, extraordinary meetings of local authorities were held. Mayor Francesco Ranieri of Terzigno emphasized that the night before was especially difficult. Wind first blew toward the crater, then directed toward the valley and houses. “We were terrified, but ground units ensured safety.” Services are investigating the cause.
