A Warsaw city bus driver was warned after a plush green basset hound that she has carried on her bus for six years prompted a fine request of 799 PLN, which she and her employer are appealing.
Mascot in the Bus: Fine Request Filed
A plea for a 799 PLN fine was submitted because a plush green basset hound placed behind the rear window of the bus was deemed to damage the vehicle’s aesthetic appeal.
Anna’s Long‑Standing Service
For 17 years, Anna has piloted a city bus. She currently works for PKS Grodzisk Mazowiecki, operating rides in Warsaw. The fine was imposed recently, though Anna has kept the furry friend in her vehicle for six years, arguing it boosts passengers’ moods and contributes to a positive travel atmosphere.
ZTM Spokesperson Comments
In an interview with TVN24, Anna clarified that the warning came from the Public Transport Authority (ZTM) and that the amount would be deducted from her salary. ZTM spokesperson Tomasz Kunert stated that the authority does not penalize drivers, and Anna received no penalty directly from ZTM. The contract governing services includes clauses on vehicle appearance, and decorating the driver’s cabin with unapproved items, such as stickers or plush toys, is prohibited.
Appeal and Current Status
ZTM’s inspection crew report any infractions to the carrier. Consequently, a fine request was forwarded to PKS Grodzisk Mazowiecki. The company has appealed, arguing that the penalty is disproportionate. PKS Grodzisk Mazowiecki’s director Wojciech Zalewski emphasized that no official fine has yet been imposed and that the appeal is still pending.
