New Details About the Elbląg Tragedy

On Sunday in Elbląg, authorities discovered two bodies on a single property: a 57‑year‑old man and a 51‑year‑old woman. The woman was found seated behind the steering wheel of a car. Police received a call that a car with a crushed windshield was parked on the property and that the woman’s body was inside. Officers confirmed the scene. The woman’s body displayed gunshot wounds. Near the same vehicle, within the same property, a man’s body was located, also with a gunshot wound, as Deputy Commissioner Krzysztof Nowacki, spokesperson for the Elbląg City Police, told Onet. A pistol was found on the man. The 57‑year‑old did not hold a firearms permit, and authorities are investigating how he obtained it.

Man Had a Court Order Restricting Access to the Woman

The man entered a vehicle the woman was driving and fired at her. He then exited the vehicle and, according to witnesses, used the same weapon to shoot himself, Prosecutor Ewa Ziębka of the Elbląg District Prosecutor’s Office said. Onet reported that the couple was in the midst of a divorce and had not lived together for some time. Prosecutor Ziębka stated the incident occurred on the property where the 51‑year‑old lived and that the man had no right to be there. She explained that a court had imposed a restriction preventing him from approaching her as part of proceedings concerning domestic violence.
