In a Monday morning tragedy in the Tatras, a 41‑year‑old Polish hiker was killed, and his 46‑year‑old companion sustained injuries.
Accident in the Tatras
In the morning hours, climbers from Martin Road to Gerlach contacted the mountain rescue service (TOPR) via phone. They witnessed the fall of two climbers. The incident occurred in the area of the Lavínové sedlo pass.
41‑Year‑Old Polish National Is Deceased
Rescue operations commenced with a helicopter involved. Upon arrival, it was determined that the 41‑year‑old man had died due to the injuries sustained. Immediate assistance was provided to his 46‑year‑old colleague, who suffered a leg injury. The man was then air‑lifted to a hospital in Poprad.
Weekend Rescue Action
Two days earlier, another incident involving Poles occurred – a woman and a man who were trapped on a Saturday evening in the High Tatras during descent. ‘Since they sustained no injuries, the night was warm, and the weather was stable, the Poles spent the night on site,’ the report states. The following day, Sunday morning, the Poles were evacuated by rescuers.
