Investigators are probing the circumstances of a newborn’s death whose body was discovered on Saturday inside a former pigsty in Ulez parish, Lublin. The initial autopsy has not determined the direct cause of death, though officials are not surprised by the findings.
Death of the newborn in Ulez parish
On Saturday evening, following an announced intervention, police and other services uncovered the newborn’s remains. The incident occurred in one of the villages in Ulez parish. The child’s remains were hidden in a ruined agricultural building, according to the Rykow County Police Command. The 31‑year‑old mother has been arrested, charged with murder, and taken into custody. She faces an indeterminate sentence.
Forensic Specialist Could Not Specify Cause of Death
The forensic specialist assessed that the child likely was born alive but did not determine the cause of death. This preliminary opinion was made after the autopsy, without toxicological or histopathological investigations, as stated by prosecutor Jolanta Dębiec of the Lublin District Prosecutor’s Office.
Circumstances of the Newborn’s Death
Initial findings did not surprise prosecutors, as there was no evidence the newborn had been suffocated or struck. The prosecution claims that immediately after the delivery, the mother failed to provide appropriate medical care, placed the child in a cloth bag, and abandoned it in the former pigsty, effectively denying the newborn the chance to survive. The fact that the baby was born alive yet died due to the mother’s criminal actions is confirmed by the process of investigation, hearings conducted by the prosecutor, and remains undisputed, according to prosecutor Dębiec.
