A newborn’s body was discovered hidden in a former pigsty in Ułęż municipality. Initial forensic assessment has not identified a direct cause of death, and the mother is charged with murder.
Death of Newborn in Ułęż Municipality
The tragic case involves the death of a newborn whose body was found on Saturday within a derelict farm building in Ułęż village, part of the Lublin region.
Police Discover Newborn’s Body Hidden in Former Pigsty
After a police-led intervention, officers together with other services located the infant’s body. Authorities report that the child was concealed inside one of the damaged outbuildings. A 31‑year‑old mother was detained on murder charges and faces a potential life sentence.
Expert Unable to Determine Cause of Death
During a preliminary examination, a forensic specialist concluded that the child was likely born alive. However, the investigation did not determine the exact cause of death at this stage.
Body Subject to Preliminary Autopsy
The infant’s remains were forwarded for autopsy. The forensic opinion, delivered immediately after the preliminary examination, was deemed tentative, lacking toxicology, histopathology, and in‑depth analysis.
Circumstances of Death: No Suffocation Evidence
Investigators found no signs that the newborn had been suffocated or struck. Evidence suggests that the mother failed to provide necessary medical care after birth, placing the infant in a cloth bag and abandoning it in conditions that did not allow survival.
Investigation and Charges
The prosecution’s case is built on procedural actions, interrogations, and the findings that the infant’s departure from maternal care led to its death. Prosecutor Jolanta Dębiec confirms that this conclusion is undisputed.
