Karol Nawrocki tells Polsat News that he is still waiting for congratulations from former Prime Minister Donald Tusk, hinting that it might be time for Tusk to offer them. He also discusses future cooperation.
Karol Nawrocki Seeks Congratulations from Donald Tusk
Karol Nawrocki said on August 12, 2024, in an interview with Polsat News that “Donald Tusk has not called to arrange a meeting with him. I am the new president of Poland. It’s perhaps the right time for the prime minister to offer his congratulations to the new president of Poland, because the prime minister hasn’t yet said a formal word and this might be an opportunity for us to discuss our directions of cooperation.” The president also reiterated that he has not been waiting for a call from the prime minister.
Nawrocki‑Tusk Cooperation
The former IPN president noted that neither he nor the prime minister need to be friends to collaborate on important matters for Poland. Nawrocki reminded that he had invited Tusk to the Cabinet Council meeting during his inauguration. “Formal invitations will be sent soon,” he said, adding that the event will take place later in August. He explained that no specific date has been announced yet, stating that it would be “unseemly” to provide a date before politicians receive a formal invitation.
Donald Tusk on Karol Nawrocki
Relations between Karol Nawrocki and Donald Tusk remain tense, evidenced by the prime minister’s recent remarks on the wind power bill. “President Nawrocki promised cheap electricity and, as a result, decided to dismiss a bill guaranteeing cheap power. What do you not understand?” the prime minister wrote. Nawrocki has doubts about one of the clauses in the amendment.
