Tusk to Join Conversation with Trump. “No One Has the Right to Pressure Ukraine”

On Wednesday, European leaders will take part in a video conference with U.S. President Donald Trump. The virtual meeting will precede Trump’s second‑day talks with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.

Discussions on the War in Ukraine

At 2 p.m. on Wednesday, leaders of Germany, Finland, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, and Poland will hold a virtual meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. “The discussions will focus on ways to exert pressure on Russia, possible peace negotiations, claims, and security issues,” German Chancellor Friedrich Merkel said on X. An hour later, the European leaders will hold a video conference with U.S. President Donald Trump and Vice‑President J.D. Van Campaign. At 4:30 p.m., further talks are scheduled with countries involved in drafting Ukraine support plans in case a cease‑fire is imposed. Government spokesman Adam Shlappa informed on Tuesday that Prime Minister Donald Tusk will attend all these meetings.

Donald Tusk: Ukraine Cannot Lose the War

“It is clear that Poland’s interest is to prevent Russia from winning this confrontation,” Prime Minister Tusk stated. “Ukraine cannot afford to lose. No one has the right to pressure Ukraine on territorial concessions or other decisions that would appear as capitulation.” He added that solidarity with the attacked neighboring nation is not the only reason; it is also essential for Poland’s security: a weakened Ukraine, unjust treatment, and a triumphant Russia pose a direct and immediate threat to Poland.

Borders Cannot Be Changed by Force

“A just and lasting peace that ensures stability and security must be in line with international law, including the principles of independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and international borders cannot be altered by force,” EU leaders of 26 member states declared in a joint statement on Tuesday. They emphasized that “the Ukrainian people must have the freedom to decide their future. The path to peace in Ukraine cannot be determined without Ukraine. Constructive negotiations can only take place in the context of a cease‑fire or limitations on military actions.”

Trump‑Putin Meeting

On Friday in Alaska, U.S. President Donald Trump will meet the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. Trump announced on Monday that after the talk he would contact President Zelensky directly to inform him of Moscow’s stance. Trump also indicated that a meeting between Putin and Zelensky should follow. The meeting is set for two days before the conference with Turkish Prime Minister Turgut Ozkan.

Zelensky: Putin Wants to Continue Actions

“Putin is certainly not preparing for a cease‑fire or ending the war,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Monday evening. “He intends to present the meeting with America as his personal victory and then continue his actions exactly as before, exerting the same pressure on Ukraine.” Zelensky added that nothing currently indicates that the Russians are ready for post‑war arrangements. Instead, they are regrouping forces in ways that suggest preparations for new offensive operations. “If someone is preparing for peace, he is not doing it,” he noted.
