Wirtualna Polska revealed the behind‑the‑scenes of a blunder at the Premier’s Office over claims that Donald Tusk would meet with Donald Trump. A participant mentioned a “desperate phone call.”
Premier Office Blunder
Wirtualna Polska described on Thursday, August 14 the backstage of a mistake by the Premier’s Office that occurred earlier this week. It concerns the announcement that the head of government would participate in talks with U.S. President Donald Trump. Government spokesperson Adam Szłapka, among others, confirmed this. On Wednesday evening, Donald Tusk informed that he had received information just before midnight that the U.S. preferred the president to represent Poland in the talks with Trump. That day, a series of three talks took place before Friday’s meeting of Donald Trump with Vladimir Putin. In the conversation between European leaders, including the Ukrainian president, and Donald Trump, Poland was represented by Karol Nawrocki. Donald Tusk, on the other hand, took part in a separate meeting of European leaders with Volodymyr Zelensky. Another meeting of European leaders took place, in which the head of government participated.
Surroundings of Nawrocki: We Could Not Believe It
We couldn’t be surprised, because from the start we knew that Trump did not intend to talk with Tusk. We received an invitation to talk with President Trump from the White House and learned that another Polish politician was not planned in that format – said one of the officials from the Presidential Palace to the portal. Another source added that “the boys from Tusk behaved foolishly.” In addition, before the leaders’ discussion, one of the deputy ministers of foreign affairs, Marcin Bosacki, was supposed to call the head of the President’s Office of International Affairs, Marcin Przydacz, to say to “maintain a common stance” in talks with the American leader and other leaders. “It was a desperate phone, a short message, in rather nervous circumstances for the Premier’s Office,” said the WP source.

Russia and the United States have agreed on the Alaska summit program. Usakow confirmed that the meeting will start on Friday, August 15 at 9:30 p.m. Central European Time. It will take place at an American military base in Anchorage, Alaska. President Putin will be protected by the Federal Security Service. Former western media correspondent in Moscow, Zygmunt Dzieciolowski, told Polish Radio that Russians are highly sensitive about security. On the Alaska trip, Putin will be accompanied by, among others, foreign and finance ministers and the advisor, Yuri Usakow.
