Who in the EU sells weapons to Israel? What sanctions were (and still are) on the European table? Will the British Prime Minister recognise Palestine as a state? In this episode we discuss the EU’s relations with Israel and explore a spectrum of possible steps that could influence Netanyahu’s government. Guests Marta Nowak and Miłosz Wiatrowski‑Bujacz are invited.
Sankcje na Izrael są możliwe
Images from Gaza are unbearable — Ursula von der Leyen stated, “Civilians in Gaza are suffering too much and for too long.” Kaja Kallas added, “Killing civilians seeking help in Gaza is indefensible.” Donald Tusk said, “Poland has been, is, and will be on the side of Israel in its fight against Islamic terrorism, but never on the side of politicians whose actions bring hunger and death to mothers and children.” European leaders, in recent weeks, have been speaking about Gaza and Israel more than ever. In July, ministers from EU states debated sanctions against Israel. Nothing emerged; Israel secured a diplomatic triumph. Agnes Callamard, head of Amnesty International, wrote, “This event will be remembered as one of the most shameful moments in EU history.” Yet the July debate’s defeat does not mean the Union cannot change its mind. Especially since in European countries, whispers of change are appearing.
France (and, conditionally, the United Kingdom) announces recognition of Palestine’s statehood
Germany, the second largest exporter of military equipment to Israel worldwide, has halted deliveries of weapons used in Gaza. The Netherlands has declared two far‑right Israeli ministers persona non grata. In this episode we discuss what other sanctions Europe could impose on Israel—particularly by exploiting how powerful an importer of goods and market of sale it is for the state governed by Netanyahu.
Trump, Putin, Nawrocki
In the news part of the podcast, Karol Nawrocki is the main character. We discuss his initial moves—vetoing the wind turbine law, a bill concerning CPK, and a second on zero PIT for families with two children. We also consider how his presidency might shape matters, the potential of post‑Nawrocki pardons, and how it could play in Donald Trump’s glow. Regarding Trump, we also report on what we know before the scheduled Friday meeting between the U.S. president and Vladimir Putin in Alaska.
