Army Day in Poland kicks off before 8 AM with a presidential flower tribute; the main military parade starts at noon on the Vistula River.
Start of Army Day Celebrations
On August 15, at 7:55 AM, President Karol Nawrocki and his wife presented flowers before Marshal Józef Piłsudski’s monument at Belweder Palace. The presidential couple then attended the Church‑Field of the Polish Army, where a Mass for the homeland began at 8:00 AM. Vice‑Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak‑Kamysz also took part. At 10:00 AM, a formal high‑command change took place at Piłsudski Square before the Unknown Soldier’s Grave. Later, on August 14, President Nawrocki issued general nominations.
Army Parade on the Vistula
The centerpiece of Army Day is the military parade that will commence at noon on Warsaw’s Vistula River. Over 4,000 soldiers from all branches of the Polish Armed Forces will take part. Allied troops from the United States, United Kingdom, France and Romania, as well as the NATO Northeast and Eurocorps delegations, will also join. The army will showcase roughly 50 aircraft and 300 pieces of the most modern equipment in its inventory, including the Borsuk infantry fighting vehicle, Baobab‑K mine‑clearing vehicle, K‑2 and Abrams tanks, F‑16 fighters and helicopters. For the first time, the parade will also feature naval ships, with the Navy taking part in a parallel water parade on the Baltic near Hel.
105th Anniversary of the Warsaw Battle
Army Day falls on August 15 to commemorate the 1920 Battle of Warsaw, called the “Miracle on the Vistula.” Fought during the Polish‑Bolshevik War, the victory over the Red Army secured Poland’s independence and shielded Europe from a Bolshevik revolution. The battle is considered one of the world’s 18 most important engagements. Army Day was declared in 1923; after a brief change to October in 1950, it returned to August in 1992.
