Israeli Minister Releases Prisoner Video, Palestinian Leaders Outraged

The video, shared on social media by an Israeli government official, sparked controversy among Palestinians when the minister threatened the life of Marwan al‑Barghoushi, a 20‑year‑old detainee still popular among his people.

Israeli Minister to Palestinian Political Activist

In a thirteen‑second clip posted on X by interior security minister Itamar Ben‑Gvir, the camera shows the imprisoned activist Marwan al‑Barghoushi. Reportedly filmed in a high‑security facility in southern Israel, the minister warned that anyone who harms the Israeli nation, kills children or women, would be “starved”.

A Peak of Psychological Terrorism

The Office of the Vice President of Palestine Hussein al‑Sheikh stated that Ben‑Gvir’s threats toward al‑Barghoushi amount to the apex of psychological, moral and physical terror against prisoners, violating international and humanitarian conventions. It called for immediate intervention from international bodies to protect detainees.

Al‑Barghoushi’s Case

The activist was arrested in April 2002 by the Israeli army and later condemned to life imprisonment for five murders, as well as an additional 40 years for attempted murder and terrorist organization activities. He is accused of coordinating numerous terror operations directed against Israeli civilian and military targets since the Second Intifada. He has denied all charges.
