Plane Incident on Flight to Gdańsk; 15 Ambulances Deployed

Authorities at Helsinki airport reported a ‘serious aviation incident’, but no injuries were found. The flight was canceled, and passengers were evacuated.

Finnish portal Yle reported on Saturday, August 16 before 11 am, that a “serious aviation incident” had occurred at Helsinki airport. The airport authority dispatched 15 ambulance and fire crews. Ultimately, the situation was not as severe. A helicopter of the grounded Finnair passenger aircraft struck a ground‑service vehicle (a power generator). Both the aircraft and the vehicle were damaged, but no one was injured.

68 Passengers Evacuated

The Helsingin Sanomat reported that the aircraft was heading to Gdańsk. Finavia, the airport operator, later announced that Finnair flight AY1175 was cancelled. Sixty‑eight passengers were evacuated and escorted back to the terminal. Subsequent flights were not cancelled, but minor delays were noted in arrivals and departures in the early afternoon.
