Americans Rate Trump After Meeting With Putin, New Survey Reveals

Trump’s support surged following his encounter with Vladimir Putin, according to an InsiderAdvantage survey citing “Newsweek.”

Survey: Trump Support Rising

InsiderAdvantage cites “Newsweek.” 54% of respondents answered that they support the president. 44% expressed a different view regarding Donald Trump, marking an increase compared to the July survey where 50% approved of the current US president. Opponents of Trump were 48% then.

Improved Results Among African Americans and Hispanics

Donald Trump now has an advantage in every age group except the oldest voters. He improved his scores among African Americans and Hispanics, as reported by Matt Towery of InsiderAdvantage cited by “Newsweek.” Analysts note that among white voters Trump achieved almost record-breaking 64% support. Voters under 65 strongly view his work positively, while the oldest voters remain critical, consistent with earlier findings. Overall, his approval ratings are rising after the peak.

Different Office Surveys

American media daily polls present a different picture. “The Economist” data on August 18 shows Trump’s approval at 42%, with disapproval at 54%, a 1.5 percentage‑point rise from last week. “The New York Times” reports approval of about 44% and disapproval around 53%.

Putin’s Demands on Ukraine

According to Axios, during the Friday (15 August) summit in Alaska, Vladimir Putin sought to “unveil maximalist claims” regarding Ukrainian territories. Trump was told to convey to European leaders that Russia demands Kyiv surrender Donetsk and Luhansk regions—including areas yet not occupied—plus freezing the front line in Chernihiv and Zaporizhzhia. Putin also aimed to persuade Ukraine to halt activities in these regions if it withdrew from Donetsk and Luhansk. The proposal would require Kyiv to abandon far more territory than Russia had actually occupied.

Zelensky’s Visit to the White House

On Monday, Donald Trump will meet with Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House, with European leaders also expected to join. The meeting will start with the Ukrainian president speaking with the US leader, then also with European leaders. The American side will be represented by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, among others. A lack of agreement with Russia could mean extended sanctions and new ones. Rubio said, “We must finish the war… We must be open to talks to reach a compromise.” Trump has promised to tell Zelensky that he must agree to certain Russian conditions: returning Crimea and pledging not to join NATO. The US president likely discussed this with Putin during the Alaska summit.
