Police Release Grim Tally After Long Weekend: Drowning Incidents and Accidents in the Background

Police and the Government Security Center have reported the number of people killed, injured, or detained during the recent long weekend. Officials noted that the casualties were higher compared to the previous year.

Grim Accident Figures

Police reported grim accident statistics: during the long weekend on Polish roads there were 360 traffic accidents (288 in 2024), resulting in 41 deaths—17 more than the previous year—and 431 injuries (345 in 2024). They also detained 1,450 intoxicated drivers, compared with 1,431 in the same period last year.

RCB Warns of Drowning Incidents

The Government Security Center (RCB) reported that 16 people drowned during the long weekend. They reminded that summer is a time for rest and relaxation, but a moment of carelessness on the water can cause an accident. Remember: swim only in designated areas; do not jump into hot water; do not enter the water after alcohol or drugs; do not enter after a meal; do not jump into unknown places; obey lifeguard instructions; wear caps on boats, kayaks, and water bicycles.

What to Do in Case of Accident?

In case of an accident, immediately contact emergency services: 112 (alarm), 997 (police), 998 (fire brigade), 999 (ambulance). They will give vital guidance that can save lives. Also protect your safety by wearing a reflective vest and ensuring the site is secure. Drivers should activate hazard lights, set up a warning triangle, and cover the wreck with their vehicle.
