Tragic Accident
On Friday, August 15 at 9:37 p.m., a fatal crash occurred on National Road 57 between Bisztynek and Wozławy in the Warmian‑Masurian Voivodeship. A rear‑end collision involving a pickup truck carrying a three‑person family caused the crash. The man was a passenger, seated beside his wife in the front seat, while their two‑year‑old son was in the rear. Sergeant Elżbieta Mazur, spokesperson for the Bartoszyce police, told ‘Fakt’ that the 37‑year‑old soldier, a volunteer firefighter, and the child could not be saved. The woman was hospitalized in critical condition. According to ‘Fakt’, she is pregnant and the doctors were able to maintain her.
The 35‑Year‑Old Faced Charges
The 35‑year‑old Audi driver fled the scene. About an hour and a half after the accident, he was apprehended at his residence. Investigation records show he had approximately 1.5 promilles of alcohol at the time of arrest. He alleged he drank post‑incident to “relieve stress”. On Sunday he faced charges: causing a fatal accident while intoxicated, fleeing the scene, and causing grievous bodily harm. Police spokesperson Daniel Brodowski of the Olsztyn District Prosecutor’s Office provided the information. He partially admitted guilt but denied being under the influence of alcohol and fleeing. The prosecutor sought temporary detention from the Biskupiec District Court handling his case.
