Sebastian Majtczak’s lawyer filed an appeal against the court’s decision to extend his temporary detention over an A1 highway crash that claimed a three‑member family’s lives.
Appeal Against Sebastian Majtczak’s Detention
At the request of the Polish Press Agency, the President of the District Court in Piotrków Trybunalski, Judge Marcin Oleśko, informed that the appeal has been submitted. The case file, together with the appeal, was forwarded to the Regional Court in Piotrków Trybunalski on 13 August 2025 for further proceedings. The Advocate for the Regional Court, Judge Agnieszka Leżańska, announced that a judge has been assigned to review the appeal. “We are not disclosing the contents of the lawyer’s request at this time,” she said.
Extended Detention
On 1 August, the temporary detention of Sebastian Majtczak was extended until 24 December, as per the decision of the District Court in Piotrków Trybunalski. The incident occurred on 16 September 2023, but charges were only filed against the man at the end of May this year. Prior to that, Sebastian M. was in the United Arab Emirates, having departed soon after the A1 highway crash. The extradition process took several months.
Indictment Against Sebastian Majtczak
In July, the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Katowice sent an indictment to the District Court in Piotrków Trybunalski. The man is accused of causing a fatal crash on the A1 near Sierosław in September 2023. According to the indictment, Majtczak allegedly collided with a Kia driven by a family of three (a couple with a four‑year‑old child). The entire family perished. Soon after the event, Majtczak fled to Germany, then to the UAE. In May this year he was brought back to Poland. He denies any guilt and faces a potential sentence of up to eight years in prison.
