Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk called on President Rząd’s office to step up after Poland missed the Washington summit, stressing unified foreign policy, patience and shared responsibility among state institutions.

On Monday, August 18, a summit in Washington featured Donald Trump, Volodymyr Zelensky, and European leaders such as Emmanuel Macron and Friedrich Merz, but Poland was not represented. Prime Minister Tusk urged the President’s office to take responsibility, emphasizing that Poland’s external policy must act cohesively and that cooperation requires mutual patience and understanding.

Government Spokesperson Explains Warsaw’s Absence

During a press briefing on Tuesday, spokesperson Adam Szłapka explained that the summit was held with the same participants as the prior video conference with Trump. Karol Nawrocki had represented Poland earlier, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Szłapka demanded that the Presidential Office engage more actively and highlighted that responsibility must be shared among all institutions.

At an August 18 appointment ceremony, Karol Nawrocki reached out to diplomats, calling for calm. He noted his recent discussions with Trump and European leaders and stressed that the Polish government remains in contact on security matters, prioritizing Poland’s interests over partisan emotions.
