Fatal Accident in Podkarpackie
On Monday (18 August) evening, at around 21:00, a fatal traffic accident occurred in the village of Grochowe in the Podkarpackie region. Police attempted to stop a tow truck driver for a road check. He refused to stop and began to flee. After a few hundred meters, he forced priority of passage onto a properly driven passenger car. The vehicles collided. According to authorities, the passenger car then struck a power pole with such force that the driver and passengers were pinned inside the vehicle.

All passengers in the passenger car died at the scene: a 19‑year‑old woman and her 12‑year‑old brother, and an 18‑year‑old man. The vehicle was probably driven by an 18‑year‑old, as RMF FM reported, based on information from the local police. The 34‑year‑old tow truck driver had almost 1.5‰ alcohol in his breath and was arrested.

During the recent long weekend, 34 people died on the roads, according to police data. Only on Sunday did the police record eight victims. In the last 24 hours, more than 400 alcohol‑impairment offenders were arrested. “During the last long weekend on Polish roads there were 360 accidents (288 in 2024), resulting in 41 deaths – 17 more than last year. 431 people were injured (345 in 2024).” The officers wrote. Additionally, they detained 1,450 drunken drivers. In the previous year, when the weekend was longer (August 15 fell on a Thursday), the figure was 1,431.”
