Arrest for 35‑Year‑Old Suspected of Causing the Accident
On Monday, August 18, the Biskupiec District Court approved the prosecutor’s request and agreed to a three‑month pre‑trial detention for Alan G. Prosecution spokesperson Daniel Brodowski told RMF FM that the court found a risk of obstruction of proceedings. He added that the threat of a severe penalty also influenced the court’s decision. The suspect gave an explanation during the detention hearing, but its content was not disclosed.
Accident in Wozławkach
The incident occurred on Friday, August 15, after 21:30 on National Road 57 at Wozłac, Bartoszyce County, Warmia‑Mazury Voivodeship. The cause was a collision when an Audi struck the rear of a Skoda driven by a three‑person family. The man was a passenger sitting in the front seat next to his wife; their two‑year‑old son was in the back. The 37‑year‑old soldier, volunteer firefighter, and his child could not be saved. A woman, who turned out to be pregnant, was taken to the hospital in serious condition, though the pregnancy is not at risk.
Suspect Fled the Scene
According to investigators, the Skoda was hit by an Audi vehicle driven by 35‑year‑old Alan G. He tried to flee on foot but was apprehended by police the same evening at his residence. At the time of arrest, his blood alcohol level was about 1.5‰. He claimed that he drank after the accident to relieve stress. Prosecutors charged him with causing an accident with a fatal outcome while intoxicated. He partially admitted guilt but denied being intoxicated at the time and denying that he fled. Investigators plan to conduct, among other tests, retrospective analyses to determine whether he was intoxicated during the incident.
