A local reporter was struck in the eye by an unidentified projectiles while waiting at a traffic light, igniting a fierce battle to secure justice.
Describing the Incident
On the night of August 15, around 8:00 p.m., Torun journalist Marcin Lewicki was using a motorcycle at the intersection of Traugutta Street and Filadelfijskimi Avenue when an unidentified object struck his eye. Lewicki, who was blinking the visor off his helmet, reported that the projectile—most likely metallic—hit him with great speed as he waited for the traffic light to change. He has issued a public call for witnesses to the event.
Fight for an Eye
Lewicki stated that he will not allow the police to close the investigation. “I am alive and I am fighting! The battle for my eye is underway, and I thank the doctors at Torun Hospital and Bydgoszcz Hospital. I also thank a Ukrainian man I know, who immediately called for help, detained a police patrol, and assisted others on the scene (including police officers).”
Other Motorcyclists in Danger?
According to o2.pl, a titanium fragment was confirmed to have lodged in Lewicki’s eye. The portal noted that several other injured motorcyclists were located nearby, including Igor Borzęcki, who had been shot by the same handgun while traversing the same intersection. Borzęcki recounted that, returning from work, he approached the intersection at the crosswalk on 18 January Street and was hit in the leg by a projectile.
Police Investigation
Dominika Bocian from the Torun Municipal Police Command confirmed that the police are conducting an investigation into the incident involving the motorcycle rider on August 15. Officials say the motorcyclist was struck in the eye by an unidentified, probably metallic, projectile while waiting at a green light. A series of procedural and pre‑procedural actions have been taken to clarify all aspects of the case. The investigation is proceeding intensively under police supervision, with the police following every possible lead, including details of two similar incidents that occurred in recent days. The case files have been forwarded to the Torun Centre‑West District Prosecutor’s Office for the opening of a formal inquiry.
