Chief of the Defense Ministry After Lublin Explosion: Every Version Must Be Considered

Poland’s defense chief convenes an emergency briefing on the Lublin region explosion, emphasizing a comprehensive investigation and the need to assess all plausible explanations.

Explosion in Lublin Region: Chief of Defense Conference

At roughly 10: a.m., the Chief of Poland’s Ministry of Defence, Władysław Kosiniak‑Kamysz, addressed the nation regarding the explosion that occurred in the Lublin region. He confirmed that continuous contact is being maintained with the Ministry of the Interior and Administration, and that police, military police, and other security services are actively involved. The military is being kept fully informed as investigations unfold.

Kosiniak‑Kamysz: Every Version Must Be Taken Into Account

“We are conducting intensive operations across all services—police, military police, the Internal Security Agency, and operational units—to secure and inspect the entire area,” Kosiniak‑Kamysz stated. “Our focus is to verify every aspect of the incident and understand its origins.”

Possible Scenarios

Chief Kosiniak‑Kamysz stressed that, due to Poland’s proximity to an active conflict zone, all potential scenarios must be considered. He highlighted that radar systems detected no breaches of public airspace, but this does not preclude further verification. One hypothesis involves a small, possibly non‑military drone, as the object lacks obvious military markings. However, a smuggling drone or sabotage act cannot be ruled out, citing precedents of arson in other regions and drone incidents in Lithuania and Romania.

Additional Context and International Coordination

He noted the learning from previous incidents, such as the arson in Marywilka, attributed to Russian Federation influence. Poland remains in close contact with its partners in Romania, which is most experienced with such events, to share intelligence and coordinate responses.
