Drone Explosion in Osiny: Polish Officials Say Incident Did Not Breach Airspace, Protest Against Russian Allegations Likely Ineffective

A military drone exploded near the village of Osiny on Tuesday night, scattering metal fragments into nearby homes. Polish authorities state the impact was contained and no violation of national airspace occurred, while officials prepare to protest what they claim is a Russian provocation.

Polish Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Denies Impact of Protest

Paweł Wroński, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that filing a protest note will not change anything. He added that the alleged perpetrator—identified by Vice‑Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak‑Kamysz as Russia—has a record of refusing to admit responsibility. According to Wroński, there is no evidence that the drone was armed with conventional weapons.

Minister Radosław Sikorski Emphasizes Defense of Polish Territory

The Foreign Ministry’s Minister, Radosław Sikorski, posted on X after 4 p.m. that the “new incursion into our airspace from the east confirms that the most important Polish mission to NATO is to defend our own territory.” He promised that the Ministry would protest the incident.

Vice‑Prime Minister Calls Incident a Russian Provocation

Vice‑Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak‑Kamysz labeled the event a Russian provocation, occurring at a time when peace talks and hope for a resolution of the war against Ukraine are underway. General Dariusz Malinowski Identifies Drone as “Spare‑Parts” UAV

General Malinowski, deputy commander of the Operational Forces, reported that the object that detonated near Łuków was a “spare‑parts” drone that carried no combat core but rather a non‑lethal payload. He noted that the drone was highly difficult to detect, likely flying very low to evade Polish radars, and was equipped with foreign‑made engines and a minimal charge.

Details of the Osiny Drone Explosion

On Wednesday at approximately 2 a.m., fragments of a military drone fell onto a cornfield in Osiny, Lublin Voivodeship, causing explosions that shattered windows in nearby buildings.
