Commander points out error about Russian drone over Poland: “For Russians, it’s excellent news”

A Russian drone that crashed near Osiny has sparked controversy, with a Polish commander claiming the incident proves Poland’s radar system failed – labeling it “excellent news” for Russia.

Russian drone over Poland delivers “excellent news” to Moscow

A drone that exploded near Osiny has been described by some Polish officials as a failure of domestic radar detection, a claim the commander says makes the incident “excellent news” for Russia.

Expert criticizes lack of radar reporting

Defence24 expert Colonel Major Maksymilian Dura told TVN24 that authorities should not announce that radar systems failed to detect the drone. “For Russians this is excellent news that our system is ineffective. We could just as well say nothing, because then the Russians would not know whether the object was actually detected,” he said.

Diverging statements from Polish services

The Operational Command of the Armed Forces reported that no breach of Polish airspace was registered last night from either Ukraine or Belarus, following preliminary radar analysis. Meanwhile National Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak‑Kamysz confirmed the object was a “Russian drone,” but prosecutor Grzegorz Trusiewicz noted investigators could not precisely identify its origin and found a likely Korean‑language inscription on a large component of the wreck.

Poland strengthens air‑defence systems

Minister Kosiniak‑Kamysz said the country is bolstering its air‑defence, anti‑rocket, and radar reconnaissance capabilities. Last year Poland purchased radar‑equipped airships able to detect objects as small as 1.1 m²; the first units should enter service in the coming months. He also announced accelerated development of anti‑drone systems.
