Illegal Stay and Fake Driver’s License: Nigerian Citizen Arrested by Bielany Police

A 24‑year‑old Nigerian national was detained at the Bielany District Office after presenting counterfeit documents, faces up to five years in prison, and will soon be deported.

Detainment of a Nigerian Citizen

A 24‑year‑old Nigerian national was arrested by the Bielany police after he presented falsified documents at the Bielany District Office. The man attempted to use a counterfeit driver’s licence and a temporary residence certificate. Immediate inspection of the documents raised suspicion, and further verification confirmed his unlawful presence in Poland. He was charged with the use of forged documents, a offence punishable by up to five years’ imprisonment.

Initial Suspicion Triggered by Document Review

Several days earlier, an interested party approached a clerk at the Bielany District Office with documents that aroused concern. The man had applied for a taxi driver position and wanted confirmation that his licence allowed him to operate vehicles in Poland. The clerk promptly notified the police of his suspicions. Information indicated that the Nigerian citizen might have used a fabricated licence and a false temporary residence certificate.

Police Response and Investigation

Officers from the Department for Economic Crime and Corruption quickly arrived on scene. In the client‑service area, they caught the individual before the documents could be turned over. The initial glance at the papers caused legitimate doubt that they were authentic.

Documentation Seized and Arrested

The documents were secured, and the Nigerian citizen was detained and placed in a police cell. Subsequent findings confirmed his illegal status in Poland.

During interrogation, the twenty‑four‑year‑old admitted that he received the licence from an unknown person and had never taken a driving test. The officers presented him with charges for using a forged Polish licence and a temporary residence certificate at the Bielany District Office. This offence carries a potential sentence of up to five years’ imprisonment.

Deportation Proceedings

After completing the necessary steps, the police obtained the prosecutor’s approval and transferred the suspect to the Customs Border Guard. Because he was in Poland illegally, he will soon be deported to his home country.

Prosecution Oversight

The case is being supervised by the Warsaw‑Żoliborz District Prosecutor’s Office.
