The Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent a protest note to the Russian Embassy following a military drone that exploded over Lubelszczyzna late Tuesday night, bridging into Wednesday (19/20 August). The ministry characterized the incident as a deliberate provocation and an element of hybrid warfare. The note was forwarded in Warsaw and will also be translated and transmitted to Moscow, according to spokesperson Paweł Wroński.
In the note, Poland highlighted that the Russian Federation violated the 1992 Friendship and Cooperation Treaty, the 1944 Chicago Convention on Civil Aviation, and numerous customary international laws. The ministry underscored that the event is linked to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and constitutes another hostile act toward the Republic of Poland and European states.
Drone explosion in Osiny. Prosecutor’s findings
The drone detonated and crashed in the village of Osiny in Łuków County. Prosecutor Grzegorz Trusiewicz – who inspected the scene – believes the unmanned aircraft arrived from Belarus. Investigators do not exclude that the drone fell onto a cornfield after contacting a power line, prompting the decision to secure three lines showing fresh damage traces. They also sealed the ground at the explosion site for analysis of explosive residues.

The prosecution continues its examination of the crash site, involving roughly fifty officials from various services and six prosecutors. Since Thursday, witnesses recount a tremendous boom and flash at the moment of impact. Fortunately, no casualties resulted from the drone’s fall.
