Międzyrzecz: “Ghost” Attempted to Steal Truck Fuel, Police Foiled the Plot

In a daring scheme, an alleged thief disguised himself as a ghost to siphon diesel from trucks, but persistent investigators quickly unraveled the plot, arresting the suspect and seizing evidence.

Unusual Theft Outfit

Police in Międzyrzecz, Lubusz Province, investigated a series of diesel thefts from truck reservoirs. Investigators discovered that the stolen fuel was being diverted to specially prepared containers. Each incident cost the city several hundred zlotys. The suspect, according to the police, wore a sheet with eye holes, pretending to be a ghost, in an attempt to evade identification by witnesses and security cameras.

Arrest of the Suspect

The County Police Headquarters in Międzyrzecze reported that their professionalism stopped the operation quickly. The criminal had been identified and was apprehended on August 16 within city limits. Police also searched the suspect’s residence, recovering items that could facilitate theft, including a plastic container and the costume sheet used for masking.

The 39‑year‑old man faces burglary with theft charges. Under the criminal code, the offence carries a maximum penalty of ten years’ imprisonment. Police highlighted that the suspect’s elaborate disguise failed against their experience and resolve, ensuring that the case will proceed to court.
