Police in Kutno are racing to locate Sister Dorota Janiszewska after she vanished following a suspicious phone call that left her unsettled and flighty.
Police Search for Missing Nun
Police from the District Police Headquarters in Kutno are investigating the disappearance of Sister Dorota Janiszewska of the Sisters of the Passionate of the Sacred Heart of St. Paul. The last sighting was on August 19 near the Catholic Elementary School, where she was seen wearing a black habit and distinctive religious insignia.
Details of the Last Seen
Sister Dorota, 57, is 163 cm tall with gray straight hair. On the day of her disappearance she wore a black habit,‑shaped plastic badge with a cross on the left breast, a black rosary pendant hanging on her right leg, a black skirt beneath the habit with white stripes, black sandals, a black veil, a black handbag, and a black backpack bearing the Nike logo.
Possible Motivations and Recent Warning
According to Sister Monika Nakielska, the convent’s superior, Sister Dorota received a phone call from someone posing as a police officer on Tuesday around 11 a.m. In what seemed like a tense conversation, Dorota abruptly left the monastery, claiming she needed to leave urgently. Since then no further contact has been made. The sisters stress that Sister Dorota’s work involves supporting women with prostitution, human trafficking, and other exploitative conditions in dangerous environments, and her disappearance may be connected to these high‑risk activities.
What to Do if Someone Vanishes
Police emphasize that time is crucial in missing‑person cases. If you suspect a close acquaintance has disappeared, report it immediately to your nearest police station—there is no need to wait 48 hours. When reporting, bring a recent photo of the missing person if possible. Officers will ask many questions to gather as much information as possible.
