Polish President Karol Nawrocki will meet U.S. President Donald Trump on September 3 at the White House, with a focus on Poland‑U.S. security, defense, and energy cooperation amid heightened tensions with Russia.
Upcoming Nawrocki‑Trump Meeting
Karol Nawrocki is slated to visit the White House on September 3, where he will address key security, domestic, military, and energy matters. According to Presidential Chief of Staff Zbigniew Bogucki, the discussion will be aimed at ensuring a strong Polish defense, reinforced by the presence of American troops in Poland and Europe. Bogucki emphasized that every responsible Polish politician, especially the President, has an obligation to confront Russia’s recurrent failure to honor agreements.
Tensions on the President‑Foreign Affairs Line
On August 16, Nawrocki joined a Trump‑organized teleconference following the U.S. President’s meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Alaska, with attendance from other European heads of state including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenski. Although Nawrocki missed the Monday summit attended by coalition allies, he urged Poland’s Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski to leverage his relationship with Trump for the benefit of Poland and Europe. Sikorski highlighted the privileged status of the Polish delegation and called on the President to utilise these ties.
Foreign Minister Paweł Wroński clarified that the decision to have—or not have—a Polish envoy in Washington was left to the President and cited American signals preferring direct contact with Nawrocki. President Nawrocki replied that Poland’s stance would still be represented in Washington even in the absence of an envoy, while his office reiterated a priority on the September meeting with Trump.
