While on a weekend break, a Warsaw police officer swiftly apprehended a suspected shoplifter in a Leroy Merlin store, demonstrating that duty knows no rest.
Unexpected Intervention
During a private visit to the Leroy Merlin store on Modlińska Street in Warsaw, a patrol officer from the Criminal Department of the Warsaw Białołęka Police Station—who was on vacation at the time—took decisive action against a shoplifting suspect.
Forceful Arrest
The officer noticed a man fleeing the store who matched the thief’s description. He immediately intervened and disarmed the escapee. Despite the detainee’s violent resistance, attempting to struggle and pull free, the officer’s swift and decisive response, aided by security staff, successfully immobilized him.
Recovered Items
Further investigation revealed that the man had tried to take three screwdriver batteries from the store, valued at approximately 1,500 złoty. The goods were retrieved and returned to the shop.
Procedural Follow‑up
After securing the scene and neutralizing the aggressor, the officer handed him over to the protective intervention team and reported the incident to the Duty Officer at the Warsaw Białołęka Police Station. A police patrol was subsequently dispatched, taking over further actions against the detainee.
The Police’s Commitment
This event highlights that a uniform is more than an obligation—it is a stance that accompanies every policeman daily. The story also underscores that officers, as members of society, remain vigilant against criminal acts, regardless of the circumstances.
