Power Outage Halts Trams, Leaves Dozens of Streets Without Electricity

A sudden power failure on Jan. Pawel II Avenue this Thursday rattled Warsaw’s tram network, leaving tens of streets without electricity and disrupting the city for almost an hour.

On Thursday morning, a power outage on Jan. Pawel II Avenue in the Ronda Radosława district crippled the tram system and caused power disruptions in the city center.

Impact on Residents

The outage, which began at around 9:30 a.m., affected both Wola and Śródmieście, cutting power on dozens of streets and potentially impacting about 20,000 residents.

Tram Service Disruption

Because the electrical grid was faulted, tram traffic on Jan. Pawel II Avenue and surrounding streets ceased entirely. City emergency crews and utilities personnel were on the scene.

Resolution

The fault was repaired within an hour, power was restored, and trams resumed their routes.
