Parish priest Janusz Czajka sparked national outrage by linking the LGBT community with the slur “f***” during a Sunday Mass, prompting the Tarnów curia to issue a canonical admonition and the Lesser Poland governor to write a formal letter condemning his offensive statements.
Priest’s shocking statement about voting for f***
During a Sunday Mass on 17 August, the resigning pastor of the parish in Łąkty Górnej, Janusz Czajka, criticized the number of religion lessons and then, at a certain point, used scandalous language directed at the LGBT community, stating “We will vote for Trzaskowski. For abortion, for euthanasia, for f***,” according to a report cited by Gazeta Krakowska.
Consequences for the priest
According to TVN24, the Tarnów curia has taken notice of the case. Canon lawyer Ryszard Nowak announced that the priest will face appropriate consequences, noting that he has already received a canonical admonition. The priest has stopped serving at his parish and is currently without assignment, the spokesperson said. The village mayor, Wojciech Wrona, also weighed in, stating that the priest insisted the municipality pay for an extra religion lesson, which is not legally permissible for local governments.
Governor releases a letter to bishop
The governor of Lesser Poland and head of the local PSL structures, Krzysztof Klęczar, sent an open letter to the Tarnów bishop, Andrzej Jeż, stating: “This is not the first time that Pastor Janusz Czajka publicly uses offensive, disrespectful remarks—his statement demands a firm, public condemnation.” The priest had also previously, during a 2020 presidential debate on TVP, declared from the altar that those seeking the presidency were “nine idiots.” It is worth noting that there were ten candidates at that time.
