Suspect Confesses to Forest Fire, Later Assisted in Suppression

As declared to police, the individual first set fire to a forest in the Zabrodzie municipality, then joined the firefighting efforts, admitting that alcohol had driven the act. The 37‑year‑old was arrested by police from the Zabrodzie Police Station and charged with a series of arsons committed in May and June of this year. He has been placed in temporary custody and faces up to 7.5 years in prison.

August 17 Fire Incident Promptly Responded by Police

On Sunday, 17 August 2025, at 20:25, the duty officer of the Wyszysk unit received a report about a forest fire in Zabrodzie. Police from the Zabrodzie Police Station immediately arrived on the scene, where they met a volunteer fire brigade from OSP Lucynów and a woman and a man who claimed to have seen the large blaze while walking and had immediately tried to extinguish the fire and notify the relevant services. An unknown man, who was later identified as the perpetrator, also assisted them.

Arsonist Regrets and Returns to Aid In Firefighting

Police investigations revealed that the suspect first ignited the fire, then, regretting his actions, returned to help extinguish it. Further investigation uncovered that he had not been the first to commit similar offences: in May and June this year he set fire to a farm building and a storage unit. He admitted to all offences and stated he was under the influence of alcohol.

Arrest and Charges

The 37‑year‑old was detained and placed in the police cell. He faced three charges of property damage. Police also learned of prior convictions for comparable crimes. Based on the request of officers and the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Wyszków, the court imposed a temporary arrest lasting three months. He now faces a potential sentence of up to 7.5 years.

Fire Contained Safely

Thanks to the rapid reaction of witnesses and decisive actions by the emergency services, the fire was brought under control before spreading to a larger area of forest.
