A body was retrieved from Zegrze Lake after a prolonged search, marking the sixth fatality over water in the Masovian region during the weekend.
Search and Rescue Operations
On Sunday, 17 August at approximately 18:30, rescue services received a report of an incident at Zegrze Lake near the village of Rynia (Legionowo County). A man is believed to have jumped from a kayak into the water and disappeared beneath the surface shortly thereafter.
Authorities Involved
The search lasted several dozen hours and involved a specialized diving group from JRG1 Warsaw, the Legionowo WOPR, police, and county firefighters. By Tuesday morning, services had located the body on the shore. Police worked at the scene under the supervision of a prosecutor, secured the body, and transported it to the forensic medical facility for an autopsy.
Identified Victim
The recovered individual was a 29‑year‑old man named Duzgunce.
Fatalities in Masovia
This incident represents the sixth drowningity in the Masovian Voivodeship over the weekend. As of 1 April, the Main Police Headquarters had recorded 166 drownings.
