A blaze this morning engulfed Hel’s volunteer fire station, a neighbouring parish shop and a restaurant, demolishing the station and injuring two firefighters.
Fire at Hel Rescue Station
“This night, something occurred that we never wanted to experience. As the fire in the building next to our station spread, it also consumed our own building—the heart of Hel Volunteer Fire Brigade,” wrote the Hel Volunteer Fire Brigade on Facebook.
“A part of the station burned down, and we watched in pain as the flames destroyed the place where we have served the people of Hel for years,” added a volunteer firefighter.
Two Firefighters Injured
The incident also raged through a neighbouring parish commercial building and a restaurant. Firefighters reported that extinguishing operations are still ongoing. According to Fr. Maciej Kuptz, deputy commander of the Puck County Fire and Rescue Service, the fire alarm for the restaurant adjacent to the station was received at 02:42.
As a result of the blaze, two firefighters were wounded—one of them serving with the Hel Volunteer Fire Brigade.
The Station Is Our Life
“From the bottom of our hearts we thank the residents of Hel for their heroic help in removing equipment and belongings from our station’s garage. Your swift action and support allowed us to save part of our property—this is priceless to us,” the brigade wrote.
The OSP emphasized that “what was destroyed hurts particularly because the station is not just walls; it is our life, our memories, our everyday readiness to help.”
“Today we need your support more than ever. We believe that through this difficult time, we will survive and rebuild what we lost,” the post concluded.
