The final layer of asphalt is being applied to Jan III Sobieskiego street, a key thoroughfare in Warsaw, with traffic detours in place from August 22nd as work continues on the Wilanów tram line.
Final Asphalt Layer Application
After the weekend, Jan III Sobieskiego street will have all its asphalt layers completed along its entire length. Starting Friday, August 22nd, the contractor for the Wilanów tram line will be working on the last section of the road heading towards the city center – between Św. Bonifacego street and Witosa avenue. Drivers and buses will be diverted.
Ongoing Improvements
Since the beginning of the summer holidays, drivers have been using both lanes of Jan III Sobieskiego street. The contractor has been improving curbs and manholes on the inbound lane. Now, the final asphalt layer will be applied.
Road Closures and Detours
From Thursday night to Friday morning (August 21st to 22nd), tram crews will close the inbound lane of Jan III Sobieskiego street, from Św. Bonifacego to Witosa avenue. Traffic organization will change at the intersection with Nałęczowska street. Only one lane will be open for straight travel, allowing drivers to reach Truskawiecka street. Further travel will be restricted.
Half of the intersection with Św. Bonifacego street, from the Powsińska side, will also be closed. Detours will be directed via Wilanowska and Wiertnicza avenues or Nałęczowska street to Powsińska and then Idzikowskiego street, or via Witosa avenue. Drivers can also use Aleja Sikorskiego.
Exits from Limanowskiego street onto Jan III Sobieskiego will be closed, and from Mangalia street, drivers can only turn right. Traffic will return to the inbound lane on Monday, August 25th, around 4:00 AM.
Bus Route Changes
During the works, buses on lines 116 (towards Chomiczówka), 172 (in both directions), and night line N31 (towards Central Station) will operate along Powsińska and Idzikowskiego streets. Lines 163 and 189 will have a detour towards Kępa Zawadowska and Sadyba via Nałęczowska street, while heading towards Wilanowska metro station and Górczewska estate, they will travel via Nałęczowska and Wilanowska avenues. Buses 148 (towards Wiatraczna) and N03 (towards Winnica), as well as 185, N33, and N83 (in both directions) will not operate on Św. Bonifacego street but will proceed straight along Aleja Sikorskiego. Bus N81 (only towards Central Station) will travel along Wilanowska and Aleja Sikorskiego. Buses on line 108 will travel to the Sadyba loop – they will not operate the section of the route leading along Św. Bonifacego street to the Stegny loop.
What’s Next?
Last week, drivers were able to use both lanes of Św. Bonifacego street – between Czarnomorska and Jan III Sobieskiego, two-way traffic has returned. The road on Aleja Rzeczypospolitej to Branickiego still needs to be asphalted. This work will be carried out after the completion of the additional turnaround at the intersection with Sejmu Czteroletniego street. The main road works along the Wilanów tram line are scheduled to be completed in the third/fourth quarter of 2025. More information about the investment can be found at www.tramwajdowilanowa.pl
