A serious incident at the Huta Katowice steelworks (now part of ArcelorMittal Poland) in Dąbrowa Górnicza on Friday left three workers injured, one with second-degree burns.
The Incident
A hazardous incident occurred on Friday, August 22nd, around 11:00 AM at Huta Katowice (currently an ArcelorMittal Poland division) in Dąbrowa Górnicza. According to TVP3 Katowice, three people were injured – one with serious burns, but their life is not in danger. The incident reportedly involved a steam release within one of the buildings in the Large Rolling Mill.
Three Individuals Hospitalized
Three individuals were taken to a hospital. One worker sustained extensive burns and was transported by air ambulance to the Burn Treatment Center in Siemianowice Śląskie. Hospital information indicates the injured worker has second-degree burns, primarily on their face, neck, and upper limbs. Their condition is not life-threatening. The other two workers were admitted to the hospital for observation. Police are currently at the scene investigating.
Routine Work Interrupted
According to initial findings, the incident was caused by a leak in a steam pipeline within the Large Rolling Mill, as reported by Junior Aspirant Kamil Graczyk from the Dąbrowa Górnicza Police Department to tvn24.pl. Sylwia Winiarek-Erdogan, spokesperson for ArcelorMittal Poland, stated that the accident occurred during routine work in the large rolling mill. “We will take all necessary steps to provide the employees and their families with the support they need. The circumstances of the incident will be investigated by the prosecutor’s office, with whom our teams will cooperate,” she emphasized in a statement.
