Surprise Phone Call During Interview with Szefernaker – “Karol from Gdańsk”

A sudden call landed on the studio phone during the “Hour Zero” interview, sending the audience into a moment of bewilderment as Poland’s President’s chief of staff, Karol Nawrocki, stepped into the conversation.

Unexpected Phone Call to the Studio

On Thursday evening, August 21, the Channel Zero program hosted former chief of staff of Karol Nawrocki, Paweł Szefernaker, as the president’s current cabinet chief. The show allows viewers to call in with questions—a feature that continued this night, delivering an unexpected call that launched a silent conversation. “Good evening, Karol from Gdańsk, fulfilling your duties with great pleasure and pride,” the host remarked after hearing a telephone ring during the interview, prompting sharp commentary from Robert Mazurek.

Karol Nawrocki Engages with Channel Zero

Nawrocki played quick, revealing the call arrived from the studio rather than expecting a direct summons from his ministerial office. The president, as it turned out, was attempting to contact Nawrocki, which Szefernaker confirmed. Nawrocki replied that he was there not with a question but to send greetings to him and the minister. After a brief exchange about the interview’s mishaps, Mazurek asked whether Nawrocki would join future Channel Zero programs, to which Nawrocki promised participation following his August trip to the United States slated for September 3.

Karol Nawrocki Vetoes the Windmill Bill

On the same day, Nawrocki reviewed 22 bills received on his desk from Parliament. He signed most but vetoed the “windmill bill,” a proposal that also extended the freeze on energy prices to year‑end. He described the bill as a “political play that threatens both the president and society,” arguing it addressed wind turbines instead of truly lowering electricity costs. The president had already signed his own piece of legislation aimed at reducing energy prices before sending it to the Sejm.
