What exploded in Osiny? Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs claims it was likely not a decoy drone

Polish officials say the explosion in Osiny was caused by explosive material, not a decoy drone, underscoring gaps in low‑altitude radar and prompting a diplomatic protest over a suspected Belarusian‑origin drone.

Deputy Minister Clarifies the Incident

Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration Czesław Mroczek told TVN24 that the explosion in Osiny, Lublin Voivodeship, was not caused by a decoy drone but was a blast of explosive material, according to the prosecutor and available evidence.

Air‑Defense System and Ongoing Issues

Mroczek emphasized that Poland has an air‑defense system built over many years, including modern elements such as the Wisła anti‑missile system, but highlighted ongoing problems with radar reconnaissance at low altitude.

General Discusses Decoy Drone Possibility

General Dariusz Malinowski stated that military assessment identified the drone as a decoy that carried a self‑destruct head rather than a combat payload, and that helicopters were dispatched immediately to ensure no additional explosions remained.

Foreign Ministry Sends Protest Note to Russia

On Thursday, the Foreign Ministry issued a protest note to the Russian Embassy following the drone crash, labeling it a deliberate provocation and an element of hybrid warfare. Investigators believe the drone likely entered from Belarus, and witnesses are currently being questioned.

No Casualties, Property Damage

Although the drone’s fall caused no injuries, the explosion shattered windows in nearby buildings.
