A gas explosion occurred in a multi-family home in Kościeliska, Opole County, on Saturday afternoon (August 23), according to RMF FM radio. Five individuals were present in the apartment during the blast, with three requiring immediate medical assistance. Emergency responders, including paramedics and firefighters, arrived quickly at the scene. The injured did not require hospitalization. The explosion’s force caused windows to shatter across the building, prompting evacuations of four residents from neighboring units. Five fire units from Olesn, along with volunteer firefighters from Radłów and Kościeliska, conducted the operation, ending it before 10 PM, as reported by Captain Łukasz Nowak from the Opol Fire Service in Polsat News.

Safety Guidelines

Authorities emphasize that when connecting a gas installation to a building, ventilation openings must never be blocked or sealed, as they are essential for gas dispersion in case of leaks. Gas sensors and detectors are designed to alert occupants with sounds or light signals when high concentrations of gas are detected. The Government Safety Center and Firefighters warn against any unauthorized modification of gas installations, stressing that all work must be carried out strictly by licensed professionals with appropriate certifications.
