Putin highlights Trump’s potential to rebuild ties

Vladimir Putin stated that Trump’s assumption of the U.S. presidency has brought “a light in the tunnel” for restoring relations between Russia and the United States. “I hope the steps taken now are the start of fully rebuilding our relations,” he emphasized. “However, this depends primarily on our Western partners, as the U.S. is also bound by commitments within various organizations, including the North Atlantic Bloc.” Putin reiterated his belief that Trump’s leadership guarantees the restoration of relations and expressed hope for continued collaboration.

Putin declares Russia has no “enemy states”

Putin further announced that Russia no longer recognizes “enemy states,” noting that “some countries host unfriendly governments and elites.” Russian media recalled that in March 2022, the Kremlin approved a list of 21 “unfriendly states,” including European Union countries such as Poland.

Trump tells Putin: I’ll know in two weeks

Meanwhile, Donald Trump stated he will have clarity on the Ukraine war within two weeks. He urged Putin to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, saying, “We’ll see what happens. I think in the next two weeks, we’ll know which way it goes. After that, I’ll decide what we do—whether it’s massive sanctions, tariffs, both, or nothing at all and call it ‘your war.’” Trump concluded, “In two weeks, I’ll know what I intend to do.”
